House Speaker Working on Plan C for Government Funding

The second plan failed to gain enough support on Thursday.

With a government shutdown looming first thing Saturday, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson of Louisiana brought a second, trimmed-down continuing resolution to the floor on Thursday, which failed to gain bipartisan support. President-elect Trump was a proponent of the second bill.

Some funding that is deemed essential includes the extension of farm aid and hurricane relief. The first proposal was nearly 1,500 pages and included pay increases for Congress and several excess spending measures. The first iteration was also delivered just three days before the funding deadline.

On Friday morning, Speaker Johnson said, “We have a plan“ to avert a government shutdown. He indicated a vote would be coming shortly.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for Speaker Johnson as he seeks a funding proposal that will garner adequate support.
  • For the president-elect and his team to be discerning as they weigh their options for trimming government costs moving forward.
